Insulation Service Areas — Greater Washington DC Metro
DMV Foam has delivered spray foam, cellulose, and fiberglass insulation across 33 communities in Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia for over 16 years. Our crews work across six permit jurisdictions daily — Fairfax County, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William, Loudoun, and Montgomery County — and we pull all permits on your behalf. Below you will find every community we serve, organized by county, with notes on the local permit authority and housing stock.
Washington, DC
Washington DC operates under the Department of Buildings (formerly DCRA), which requires permits for most renovation-tied insulation work — roof-deck spray foam in unvented assemblies, basement encapsulation, and work touching structural framing. The District's housing stock is dominated by 1890s–1930s Federal and Victorian rowhouses with uninsulated brick party walls, vented crawl spaces, and original framing. Historic Preservation Office review applies to exterior changes in DC's many historic districts, but interior insulation upgrades — attic air sealing, basement spray foam, dense-pack cellulose in walls — are almost always exempt. We pull DOB permits in our name and handle all inspection scheduling. Drive time from our Falls Church headquarters: 20–30 minutes.
Fairfax County (19 communities)
Fairfax County is our busiest service area. The housing stock is diverse: 1960s–1980s colonials in Burke Centre and Annandale, 1990s–2000s planned communities in Reston and Herndon, estate-scale custom homes in Great Falls and McLean, and dense townhome corridors in Springfield and Lorton. Most pre-1990 homes carry original R-11 walls and R-19 attics — well below today's R-13 to R-49 code minimums under the 2021 Virginia Residential Code. Fairfax County DPWES issues building and mechanical permits for conditioned-space insulation work; we pull them on your behalf and coordinate inspections. Attic upgrades and basement rim sealing typically deliver 25–35% energy savings on this housing stock. Drive time from Falls Church: 15–40 minutes depending on community.
Arlington County & City of Alexandria
Arlington County and the City of Alexandria are independent jurisdictions with their own permit departments — Arlington's DCPHD and Alexandria's DCPZ. Both corridors mix rowhouses, high-rise condos, and early 20th-century detached homes at high density. Many properties sit within historic overlay districts that govern exterior changes, but interior insulation upgrades are typically exempt. Condo owners need HOA approval and certificates of insurance before we schedule; we arrive with a complete package to move the process quickly. These are among our fastest-turn markets — crews are in this corridor several days a week. Drive time from Falls Church: 15–25 minutes.
Prince William County
Prince William County's Manassas and Woodbridge corridors feature primarily 1995–2015 townhomes and single-family homes that were built to improving but not yet optimal code. Most carry R-13 walls and R-30 attics — below today's R-49 attic target for Virginia Climate Zone 4A. Prince William County DCPD handles permits for insulation work that touches conditioned space or structural framing. We maintain a regular crew rotation through the county. Drive time from Falls Church is 35–50 minutes depending on I-95 and Route 66 conditions.
Loudoun County
Loudoun County — Ashburn, Leesburg, and Sterling — grew from farmland to one of the fastest-growing and most affluent counties in the country over the past 20 years. Most homes were built between 2000 and 2020, with R-13 to R-19 walls and R-30 to R-38 attics that fall short of the current R-49 target. The Dulles Technology Corridor in Ashburn also generates commercial insulation work on office and data center support buildings. Loudoun County DPDS handles permits. Drive time from Falls Church is 30–40 minutes via Route 7 or the Dulles Toll Road.
Maryland — Montgomery County
Our Maryland service area covers Montgomery County communities. All work requires Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) licensing — which we hold — and Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) permits for conditioned-space insulation. Maryland homeowners can access Pepco's EmPOWER Maryland program, which offers free Quick Home Energy Check-ups and rebates on qualifying insulation through Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. Federal IRS Section 25C tax credits cover 30% of qualifying insulation costs up to $1,200 per year. Housing ranges from Silver Spring's 1920s bungalows and Chevy Chase Village's early 20th-century Tudors to modern Bethesda tear-down rebuilds and Rockville planned-community townhomes. Drive time from Falls Church: 30–45 minutes.
